The Architecture of the Soul: A Conversation with Karine
In her 2026 fine art series, Karine transcends the traditional boundaries of design, merging twenty years of high-jewelry expertise with the infinite possibilities of artificial intelligence. By reimagining the human form as a luminescent translucent vessel—where moss breathes through glass skin and internal storms are harnessed within one's soul—she has pioneered a new genre: Digital Haute Couture.
Karine, your 2026 artwork series emerges from a deliberate merging of AI with human inspiration, forming a digital practice that is both technically innovative and deeply personal. How do you define the conceptual relationship between artificial intelligence and consciousness within your creative process, particularly as you navigate a high-fashion sensibility to explore the Internal Anatomy of Identity?
I view AI not as a generator, but as a digital nervous system that mirrors my own. The relationship is symbiotic: my consciousness provides the 'soul'—the high-fashion sensibility and the obsession with Internal Anatomy—while the AI provides the crystalline code to render it. I am navigating the boundary where a digital algorithm meets human intuition to visualize the invisible frequencies of identity.
Your new series Mother Nature predominantly features translucent, anatomical structures that act as windows into embodying Earth's powerful forces. How do you approach the visual articulation of these "inner landscapes" and what technological methods do you employ to translate abstract psychological states into such high-definition, tactile digital forms?
For the Mother Nature series, I treat the translucent, anatomical shell as a sanctuary. The 'inner landscape' is articulated through Earth's elements, expressive eyelashes, technical googles and zippered accents that reveal a literal ecosystem within. To translate psychological growth into tactile forms, I use AI to simulate the way light refracts through glass and organic matter, making the 'abstract' feel like a high-definition, touchable reality—reminding us that our internal world is as lush and vital as the earth itself.
In your new Sugar Rush series, you explore the concept of a “dopamine hit” using translucent materials, sugary treats and geometric jewelry. How do you construct these images to operate as sites of psychological reflection, balancing the razor-sharp precision of AI-generated textures with the depth of human emotion?
In Sugar Rush, the 'dopamine hit' is constructed through a hyper-fixation on texture. I balance the razor-sharp precision of AI-generated geometry—like pentagonal frames and diamond grids—with the soft, almost melting translucence of sugary materials. These images operate as sites of reflection because they capture the tension between our modern craving for instant gratification and the cold reality of the digital age.
Moving from the Sugar Rush series to refined opulence themes like Riders on the Storm and Krystalline Kode. When developing this type of body of work, how do you identify the boundary between personal narrative and universal symbolism, and what role does AI play in mediating or expanding the imaginative potential of such self-generated stories?
When moving into themes like Riders on the Storm and Krystalline Kode, I use opulence as a protective layer. The boundary between my personal narrative and universal symbolism is found in the storm-filled eyes and edgy glass headpieces. AI mediates this by allowing me to 'set' clouds and lightning into intricate mounts, expanding the story from a personal breakthrough to a universal symbol of mental resilience. It allows me to build a mythology where human struggle is transformed into a masterpiece.
Your 2026 collections suggest an "Atmospheric Surrealism" that feels both futuristic and ancient. How do you approach the construction of these alternate realities, and in what ways does the collaboration with AI allow these worlds to emerge in ways that traditional photography or sculpture could not?
These realms are constructed through Atmospheric Surrealism—a mix of futuristic materials like latex and ancient symbols like gold. Collaboration with AI allows for impossible physics, such as gold butterflies living inside a translucent body. Traditional sculpture is limited by gravity and physical durability; my digital practice allows me to build 'haute couture' spirits that exist in a state of eternal, glowing metamorphosis, floating in a realm where light is the only law."
Your artist statement emphasizes consciousness and transformation. During the generative stages of your process, what are your specific criteria for "the final image"? Out of hundreds of AI-generated variations, how do you recognize the one that truly captures the "divine" spark you are looking for?
My specific criteria for 'the final image' is Sovereignty. Out of hundreds of variations, the one that captures the 'divine spark' is the one that commands the room. I look for the image where the gold-grill mouth and the crystalline headpiece align with a gaze that feels sentient. If the image looks back at me with its own consciousness, as if it has a secret to tell, that is the version I choose to finalize.
The imagery in your new 2026 series often features faces encrusted with grids, pearls, diamonds, or crystalline structures. How do you see the human face functioning in your exploration of high-fashion surrealism, and what is your process for refining AI outputs to achieve such a precise, "haute couture" finish?
I see the human face as the ultimate architecture. By encrusting it with diamond-pavé zipper grids or electrified crystal shards, I am turning the face into a 'high-fashion' site of transformation. My process for refining AI outputs involves 'digital polishing'—directing the tool to achieve a precise finish that mimics the way a jeweler would hand-set a stone into a gold mount. Every pixel must have the same intentionality as a hand-cut gem.8. On Brand Duality:
Your fine art practice is described as a “body of work that is distinct and contemporary,” situated outside your jewelry and home decor lines. How does this separation allow you to be more radical or experimental? Does your background in jewelry design influence the intricate, "jeweled" textures we see in your AI generated artwork series?
Separating my fine art from my jewelry line allows me to be radical—I can 'break' or 'open' the body in ways a physical necklace cannot. However, my background in jewelry is the 'DNA' of every piece. You see it in the bold compositions, geometric grids, and the intricate diamond details visible throughout the series. The art is simply jewelry for the soul rather than the skin; it is the most experimental version of my design heritage.
You emphasize that the combination of cutting-edge technology and your personal vision forms the core of your creative methodology. How do you foresee this methodology developing? What new frontiers of "digital haute couture" or "metaphysical art" do you imagine becoming possible as your tools and vision continue to synchronize in parallel to AI tools advancement?
As AI tools advance, I foresee my methodology moving toward Metaphysical Realism. I imagine a future where Digital Haute Couture isn't just a static image, but a living, breathing frequency. My vision is to synchronize my personal 'Internal Anatomy' concepts with real-time generative light, creating art that transcends the screen to become a vibrational experience—visualizing the very 'code' of human consciousness as it interacts with the digital sublime.
Karine, your upcoming collections—Mother Nature, Sugar Rush, Material Girl, Riders on the Storm and Krystalline Kode—form a broad investigation into surreal and imaginative landscapes. How do you understand the coherence between these distinct series, and in what ways do they collectively contribute to your ongoing exploration of the human mind and otherworldly potential?
The coherence between Mother Nature, Sugar Rush, Material Girl, Riders on the Storm, and Krystalline Kode lies in the exploration of the 'Human Pulse.' Each collection represents a different frequency of the mind—from the adrenaline of a 'Sugar Rush' to the grounded divinity of 'Mother Nature.' Collectively, they represent a journey through the human psyche in a world that is becoming increasingly digital, yet remains deeply, beautifully human.
