Patty Rodgers
Biography
Patty Rodgers, a Texas based painter, creates large colorful oil paintings. Her work centers on semi abstract images of light on objects, interiors, and landscape spaces with a geometric organization.
Patty is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, having earned a BFA in painting, Simmons University, (B.A. in art), and Central CT State University, (art teaching certificate in grades K through 12). Patty taught art in public schools for about ten years in CT and IL, then began teaching private art lessons at an artist’s co-op in Illinois, and guitar lessons through her home based business, now known as Denton County Guitar Studio.
Patty is a member of VAST, Visual arts society of Texas, and VAL, Visual art league of Lewisville, where she exhibits her work in group shows. Her most recent exhibits in 2023 to 2021 were at VAST and VAL, the Gallery 8680 in Frisco, The Other Art Fair in Dallas, Art Spectrum Miami, and several on-line collections at Saatchiart.com. Patty has been exhibiting in galleries, group shows, various art centers and fairs in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Illinois since 1981. Her first painting award was given by the well-known artist, Will Barnett. Patty’s art is in private collections all across the United States and in five different countries. Public collections include Wausau Hospital in WI, and Southern CT State University.

Artist Statement
I am captivated by light and the interplay of light and space.
The subjects I am attracted to have strong verticals, horizontals, and diagonals. With these, I like to create a dynamic, bold design of contrasting colors. The colors either appear to come forward or recede to help create the perception of three-dimensional space. The implied line and direction of the shapes, guide the viewer through the space in a “walk from one part of the painting to another".
It is a moment in time and place captured. It is something about the metaphysical. It is here and now but also something else, undefined.
