Biography
Nandan He is a multimedia artist whose work mainly swing between interactive sculpture and mix media installation. She gain her BFA and MFA degree from Maryland Institute College of Art in painting and in multidisciplinary art. Her work has been exhibited in Performance Space 122, New York; Institute of Contemporary Art, Baltimore; Maryland Federation of Art, Annapolis; Walter Otero Contemporary Art, Puerto Rico; Fukuoka International Youth Film Festival, Japan; Milan Art & Events Center, Italy; XSPACE Art Square, China; The 26th Guangzhou International art Fair; Art Expo New York, etc. Her work has been featured in Art Forum, Artsy, China Daily Global , etc. She now work as an independent artist lives and works in New York.
Artist Statement
Most of Nandan’s work are multi disciplinary installations with underlying perception of
cognitive dissonance. They presents the interplay between self and the surrealistic evolution that coincides with everyone’s odd phantasm and nihilistic belongings, trying to figure out the balance between us and the world. By using cardboard, animation, VR video etc, she creates intimacy spaces like a false self preservation solution with sanitize and romanticize armor. They explore the rawness of a contemporary self, embodied cognition of emptiness, and reveals an irrational order of a hyper normalized wonderland.
