Sandrine Langlade

Sandrine Langlade has been painting since her childhood in Reunion Island, Indian Ocean. Over the last 12 years, she has been regularly exhibiting her paintings in Europe, Brazil and the United-States.

Her creative work is characterized by an explosion of bright, lively colours, with geometrical truncated shapes, asymmetrical, simultaneously deconstructed and reconstructed, often with figurative motifs.

Two recurrent subjects emphasize her pictorial style: nature/universe and femininity, on a synaesthesia (musical gardens, gaudy farandoles’…).

Her creative process is very intimate: at first, she lets her brush rule, enclosing feelings, sensations and emotions in the canvas. Then, her consciousness comes to build the composition of the artwork. At the end of the process, some recognizable figures might appear... or not ! Because what she most likes is allowing the public to wander from her artworks, drift and get lost in it.

Her inspiration comes from current life: she lives everything with passion, feeling 200% of the emotions. The rest comes from studying, learning, and being more and more able to answer to the core question in her work: “how do I translate what I can see and feel into impactful art pieces?” Emotions are what really feed her work. “how do I translate what I experiment and feel into impactful art pieces?” Emotions are what really feed her work. Two recurrent subjects emphasize her pictorial style: nature / universe and femininity.

''Painting makes me feel complete. Accomplished. I do not “make” art. I “live” it. Therefore, in each of my paintings, there is a bit of myself: my character, my emotions, my being. When I start working on a canvas, I put all those feelings on it, without thinking too much. After this crucial step, I care about the global construction and shapes. Nothing is calculated in advance.

Absolutely no premeditation. I let my paintbrush -my heart- dominate my mind. Colors and shapes come to figure something recognizable only in a second step, when my heart and my mind play together, to bring the final touch. Thus my creative process is very intimate. At first, the brush rules, enclosing feelings, sensations and emotions in the canvas. Then, my consciousness comes to give the final composition to the artwork. At the end of the process, some recognizable figures might appear… or not!

Because what I most like is allowing the public to wander from my artworks, drift and get lost in it. I content with suggesting; up to the public to imagine the rest. In a way, fair is fair. I paint with my heart, my emotions and my mind… so I hope my public uses the same means to come into my canvas and, if possible, dream, travel from it, float and go adrift, very far away, see new perspectives, feel lost and serene, peaceful, and appreciate those sensations.'' - Sandrine Langlade

To Sandrine, art is a way to express an authentic and unique intimate vision of the world. The artist sees the world through a particular eye and then she returns very personal vision of it. The result is an artpiece that offers to the public a new way of seeing the world all around, thinking about and questionning it.

As a matter of fact, art opens new paths, allows the opening of new doors -even windows- to see reality. She believes that the capacity of an artwork to affect some people may be a consequence of the way those new paths are expressed in it. Depending on the colors and shapes, how they are organized, what they refer to and how they sound to you personally, you can feel deeply touched. This is art.

Living everything with passion and feeling 200% of the emotions is Sandrine´s first source of inspiration. So natural and recurrent for her. The rest comes from studying, learning, and being more and more able to answer to the core question in her work: how to translate what she can see and feel into impactful art pieces. Emotions are what really feed her work. There is not one experience in particular. To her, every single feeling or event is worth becoming the starting point for a great masterpiece.
