Of Those That Went and Came. Framed archival pigment print (EditionX). 59cm x 84cm
After making a conscious decision in 2017 to refine his practice and develop a more focused visual language, Ryan’s work has evolved into a consistent exploration of light, movement, and perception. His images often draw on coastal and urban environments, using repetition, layering, and subtle shifts in viewpoint to suggest presence, absence, and duration.

Artist Statement
My work is concerned with how time is felt rather than how it is measured. I am drawn to moments that sit between states, where light changes, where movement leaves a trace, and where a place feels suspended rather than fixed. Instead of treating a photograph as a single, decisive moment, I use multi exposure and long exposure techniques in camera to allow several moments to exist within one image.
Lingering Glow. Framed archival pigment print (EditionX). 84cm x 59cm
This way of working reflects how experience accumulates. We do not encounter places as isolated instants, but through overlap, return, and memory. By layering exposures and shifting perspective, I try to create images that feel closer to how places are remembered than how they are simply recorded.
Ecos Acadêmicos. Framed archival pigment print (EditionX). 59cm x 84cm
Much of my work is rooted urban and coastal environments, spaces shaped by weather, passage, and human presence. I am interested in how small changes in light or position can alter the emotional weight of a scene. The images are built quietly, often appearing calm at first, but holding subtle tensions and repetitions that reveal themselves over time.

I think of the finished works as spaces to spend time in rather than images to read quickly. They are intended to reward slow looking and repeated viewing, allowing the relationships within the frame to shift as the viewer returns to them.
