Artist Statement

The research method adopted by Luca Marovino is that of direct confrontation with the material. There is no defined project, no model to follow and develop, but it is the stone itself in its natural split form that suggests the creative process. The tension linked to the spontaneous act bears witness to the mood of the moment, an indelible trace of the experience acquired and the thought matured.

The final work is the result of conscious daring in the gesture that determines a sure and decisive mark without regret. Marovino's series of works called “Silenziose Grida” (Silent Cries), begun in 2015, consists of small sculptures made of finely worked, smoothed, and polished black marble.

Each sculpture is inspired by the flint and obsidian weapons of primitive art, an interest that has also materialized in the collection of black marble jewelry sculptures called “Divinae,” dedicated to movie stars. In 2017, Marovino received the prestigious “Silver International Prize” for his “Bone” pendent in the field of designer jewelry.
