How would you describe yourself and your artwork?

Informal and with a statement.

How do you go about beginning a new piece? Do you have an idea already in mind, or do you start working with materials or sketches to find the departure point?

I already have a clear idea of motive and statement.

When do you think your most prolific time of day or week is?

In the mornings and in the evenings (and nights).

What is a barrier you as an artist overcame? Is there anything that enabled you to develop your work as an artist in your life?

The most important barrier I have overcome is, what other people think. I have become much better at following my intuition without being distracted by other people’s opinions. If anyone has helped me develop this skill I would say a collaboration I had years ago. I was working with a gallery and when I one day came with a painting I was very happy with and also with a very strong political statement, the gallerist said ‘Sorry, but I don’t think I can sell this painting’. Then I knew that I had to make more paintings like that, I just felt right to continue in that direction. Though it sounds funny, it is not the money that drives me, it is the priceless opportunity to freely communicate and share beliefs and thoughts of life.

Did you have an idea of what you wanted to create right from the beginning?

First I felt priviliged (and I still feel privileged) that people are buying my artwork. After I became a mother my artwork was shaped into a more honest direction, with a stronger attitude and with confidence. Today I use art as a global voice to get attention and to call for action around important issues such as sustainability and around a existential questions about what does it really mean to feel rich and what does it mean to live ones true nature. Today my artwork, art events are not only statement to connect with people, the artwork also raises money both for green and for humanitarian causes and I am very proud and humble to be able to o that.

What is the meaning or creative inspiration for your work? We’re curious what the narrative or story is to what you are producing?

Life it self is a great inspiration. The awareness of being. I am very grateful to be given a life. I love sharing the essence of what being is...

My artwork is also inspired by thoughts around how I can contribute to make a great future for my daughter and the next generation to come.

Besides your artworks, are there any other things in life that your voice as an artist may consider vital or valuable? What makes you joyful and creative, in other words?

Art is my life, my joy and my sunshine. I am, that is why I create. My family, close relations, nature and music has a great impact to my inspiration aswell. And I love to play. The playful, sustainable and creative element has the greatest potential.

Are there any exhibitions or places where people can see these beautiful creations in person soon? Anything on the horizon?

Right now I have to danish exhibitions, I am planning on participate on upcoming international Art Fairs in the rest of Europe also. You can follow the program for exhibition on my Instagram Lise_vestergaard , which will be updated. Or else take a look at my webpage: LiseVestergaard.dk
