Marie-Ghislaine Beaucé

Biography

Marie-Ghislaine Beaucé, a French artist currently living in London, United Kingdom, has been passionate about textile fibres since childhood. At the National School of Fine Arts in Nantes, in the west of France, she experimented with weaving various materials such as hemp, 8 mm film, ribbons cut from diverse fabrics, aluminium, and painted cardboard tubes.

She worked for many years as a soft furnishing seamstress, advising clients, designing, and creating items for apartments, houses, and yachts for private clients in France, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Marie-Ghislaine has also created numerous stage costumes for La Sylvaine Ballet School shows in London.

Since 2015, she has been active as a textile artist, creating artworks composed of leftovers from soft furnishing fabrics, carefully chosen for their texture, colour, and pattern, which she collected over the years.

Since 2024, Marie-Ghislaine's artwork has received many prestigious prizes for innovation and individuality. Her work has been featured in Art Anthology VI - Madrid Edition, February 2023, by Capital Culture House; Contemporary Celebrity Masters - Volumes 1, 2, and 3, published in 2024 by Effetto Arte Fondazione, Italy; and The World Art Guide 2025 in Sweden. She was interviewed by Contemporary Art Curator in 2024 and by Art Market Experts in 2026.

Artist Statement

Marie-Ghislaine Beaucé is an artist whose journey is deeply rooted in her fascination with textile materials and their artistic potential. Her exploration of different textures, colours, and forms has led her to develop a distinct visual language that merges the tactile quality of textiles with the conceptual rigour of geometric abstraction.

The absolute protagonists of her artworks are the materials themselves, which she intertwines and overlaps to create intricate, semi-abstract geometric lattices. These compositions are punctuated and delimited by rhythmic layers of fabrics, employing woven techniques with ribbons and the superposition of padded tubes, suggesting a sense of movement and progression and showcasing the artist's unique approach to textile art.

The artworks are characterised by their exploration of themes related to structure, fluidity, and interconnectedness. Her use of textile fibres as the primary medium allows her to create intricate compositions that evoke a sense of depth and dimensionality.

One of the central themes in Marie-Ghislaine Beaucé's work is the relationship between order and chaos. Her compositions often feature a structured, geometric framework that is softened by the organic, fluid nature of textile fibres.

Her work delves into the intersection of traditional textile techniques of weaving and knitting with contemporary art, resulting in hybrid creations that straddle the line between patchwork and plasticism.
