Charlotte Shroyer
Biography
Several years ago, Dr. Charlotte "Charlee" Shroyer listened to the "music of her soul," left a 20-year career as a teacher and college professor, and started on a path that would lead her to Taos, New Mexico. Her work, described by colleagues and patrons as "full of energy," comes from a place deep within - a place of her own vision.
Dr. Shroyer was named first-place winner in the Top Ten International Women in the Arts competition in Rome, Italy, and has also received awards in New York City, Florida, Berlin, and elsewhere. Her abstract and expressive oils and monotypes have been included in national and international private collections, in addition to being exhibited in shows in Hong Kong; Lexington, Kentucky; Bologna, Italy; and other locations.
Other artistic avenues include weaving Navajo-style pillows and rugs, as well as writing about art.
Artist Statement
I am inspired by the world - its people, archaeology, and cultures. My favorite authors, including Pamuk, Durrell, Pynchon, and others, explore the duality of personality: what the individual shows to the world and what remains hidden. Their work influences what appears on my canvas.
Through painting, I tap into and expand the depths of my unconscious and a world unconscious that transcends individual and cultural boundaries.
