Artist Spotlight - Britta Ortiz
Biography
I was born in 1959 in Denmark. While I was in high school, I took a preparatory course for the art academy, because art was already a big part of my life at that time. However, I never applied to the art academy because my parents were strongly against it. Instead, I applied to university and studied medicine. Since then, I have also studied psychology and completed a master's degree in health anthropology because I love learning new things.

During my medical studies, I found out that expressing myself creatively was just as important to me as using my academic skills. However, I have never regretted not applying to the art academy, because my work as a doctor has given me the opportunity to use both sides of my brain while also giving me financial freedom.

This means that I have the opportunity to continue exploring art and trying new things while also giving me financial freedom. This means that art has always been my free space, where I have been able to try things out, and I have never had to think about whether anyone wants to buy my works or not. At the same time, my education and my work provide inspiration and give me a completely different insight into the world than I would have had if I had chosen to become a full-time artist.
My work has also taught me that it is very valuable to meet and collaborate with people from different environments, when after 13 years as a clinician I got a job outside the clinical world, and for many years I have used my creative abilities to create various efforts that have been intended to improve the health status of citizens and especially citizens with no or only a short education. At the same time, my regular work cannot avoid influencing me as an artist and my view of the world.
