Artist Spotlight - Belinha Silva
Biography
Belinha Silva is a contemporary Portuguese artist born in Lisbon and currently based in Albufeira, Portugal. From an early age, artistic creation played a central role in her life, with drawing and painting forming an essential part of her daily expression. Although she initially pursued an international career in finance, her passion for art remained constant and eventually led her to fully dedicate herself to her artistic practice.
Joyful Assembly I, Jan. 2026
A defining moment occurred in 2005 while living in Brussels, when she attended her first artistic workshops. This experience marked a turning point, revealing the depth of her creative potential and igniting a profound desire to develop and explore her artistic voice.
Joyful Assembly II, Nov. 2025
Entirely self-taught, Belinha Silva approaches creation through an intuitive and emotionally driven process. Her work is often inspired by personal experiences as well as by broader social, cultural, historical and environmental contexts. Rather than following a single artistic influence, her visual language evolves through a free dialogue between observation, memory and imagination.
Modern Rush, Nov. 2025
Her artistic universe combines abstraction, contemporary surrealism and pop influences, resulting in vibrant and expressive compositions that invite interpretation. Through the interplay of colour, movement and texture, her works create immersive visual spaces where symbolic elements and organic forms coexist.
Guilin, Aug. 2025
A distinctive aspect of her practice lies in her continuous experimentation with materials and techniques. Fascinated by the expressive potential of mixed media, she has developed an original technique that integrates painted porcelain fragments into canvas painting. This innovative approach merges two traditionally separate artistic domains, transforming porcelain into a dynamic component of contemporary pictorial composition and giving it a renewed artistic dimension.
Tropical Life, Mach 2025
Working primarily with acrylic, while also incorporating watercolour, oil and a wide range of mediums traditionally associated with porcelain painting, she creates richly textured surfaces that emphasize both visual intensity and material presence.
The Waves' Dance, Nov.2025
Her artworks have been recognized through various international art awards and online painting competitions, and her work has attracted the attention of galleries interested in exhibiting and representing her artistic practice.
Through her art, Belinha Silva seeks to engage the viewer’s sensitivity and imagination, creating works that resonate emotionally while reflecting the complexity and energy of the contemporary world.

Artist Statement
In order to achieve creations, which are the fruit of my own designs and techniques, I use, in a quite unusual manner, colors, materials and techniques.
The colors allow me to give a specific character to my artworks. Therefore, I choose them depending on the theme of the paintings. I believe that the choice of colours used is very important, because they give a rhythm to the painting, a warm or cold ambience, joy or sadness.
I enjoy mixing materials in order to obtain different textures. I use various materials like canvas, canvas rolls, wood panel, papers and broken porcelain. Sometimes, I employ also some jewellery findings or some other decoration elements in my paintings.
Oriental Reverie, August 2024
Mainly, I paint in acrylic, but I can also paint in watercolour or oil. To paint porcelain, I employ an enormous palette of pigments, mediums and lustres.
During my artistic trip, I accumulated various art techniques which I use and improve, trying to innovate by combining textures and materials.
Cosmos II, Aug. 2024
Parts of my paintings are created with my invented mixed technique "Painted Porcelain & Acrylic on Canvas". This technique consists firstly of painting the background of the entire canvas in acrylic, which is the scenario of the painting. Then, the subjects of the painting are created with pieces of randomly broken by hand white porcelain, outlined and fired at 740Cº.
The Event, Oct. 2022
Afterwards, they are colored with different pigments mixed with mediums, fired again several times at a temperature ranging from 750Cº to 1000Cº. In order to create the characters, these broken pieces of painted porcelain are juxtaposed together and glued firmly on the canvas with the use of special glue.
Osyssey, Sept. 2022
By associating two completely distinguished painted materials, canvas with porcelain, I give porcelain painting a new life, obtaining by this way a unique, contemporary, original and irreproducible painting.
Nautical Utopia, Oct. 2022
My intention to create with this mixed technique is to demonstrate that the originality of these mixing textures, results into an avant-garde painting appropriate to be exhibited in a Contemporary Art Gallery. I must mention that I’m the unique that created such paintings with that process.
Space Skating, Jan. 2022
It is this interaction between my art and my technique, which allows me to become one precursor of the modernization of porcelain painting. I intend to continue to develop this technique in order to evolve it and make it known publicly.
