Pamela Ekström

Biography

I was born in Stockholm, Sweden and raised in Stockholm, New York and Mexico. I studied art in Paros, Greece, Tibet House, New Dehli, NY (NYU) and Mexico. My art reflects my experiences through my travels around the world and the unlocking of cultural and spiritual meaning that images can provoke. I presently live and paint in Los Angeles.

Artist Statement

I started by studying realism and moved into surrealism and magic art, incorporating life’s lessons as philosophical signposts to elevate consciousness. I believe in impossible dreams and having a visual window helps materialize them.

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

My mother fomented the love of art in me when I was a child, taking me to frequent visits to museums which inspired me to start painting.

What kind of artist do you ultimately see yourself?

For me Surrealism and Visionary art at this point is how I can best express what I see, a combination of the outer and inner world.

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

I want to show my inner world and depict the reality of how we are changing the planet and how it changes us, but whatever I’m creating I want it to be beautiful and elevate the consciousness of spirit, perhaps even serve as a tool for meditation.

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

It’s a combination of experience, inspiration and imagination.  I pick a topic and visualize it, I see it on the canvas before I paint it, but then there are also surprises, things happen that you didn’t quite expect sometimes.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

There is a very special satisfaction when my ideas work well and effortlessly on canvas.  Coming up with those ideas and seeing the finished work is a lot of fun.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

I’m currently working on several new paintings that I hope to inspire you with, this past year has really been an opportunity to go deep and contemplate existence and try to bring forth the subconscious in images that touch the heart and soul and delight the eye.
