Artist Statement

Art is found in the ineffable space between possibility and actuality, between the idea of a work and the actual work itself. It is one of many acts in the human struggle against chaos, a counterweight to entropy.

The Devil Has A Silver Tongue, 2024. Wood, found objects, brass, stain, varnish. 61x35.5x2.5cm

In my practice, I use a variety of forms, materials, and scales to bring a unique sensibility to my work. I explore the inter-relationship of objects in space, the nature of form in motion, and the effects of scale on composition. My work gives new meaning to found or discarded objects and images in the understanding that art is itself a regenerative process.

Pickey Mickey (After Mouse), 2024. Wood, found object, gold metal leaf, stain, varnish. 30.5x19x2.5cm

I begin with an initial idea or with a particular material, which I choose at random. It is formless, a blank slate. Through the process of assemblage, I work intuitively by way of an ongoing dialogue between myself, the material, the developing forms, and the emerging content.

Wheel Of Fortune, 2024. Wood, brass, gold metal leaf, stain, varnish. 25 x 23.5 x2.5 cm

I incorporate natural objects such as stones & bones and branches to remind us of our inextricable connection with nature. I add dimensionality with sound and motion. In my work, I seek to enliven the space around us and stimulate the spirit within.
