Cheongju International Craft Competition

Cheongju International Craft Competition

The Cheong Craft Biennale is a comprehensive gala of arts held every two years since 1999 featuring all crafts including ceramics, wood, lacquer, textiles and metal from in and out of Korea. As the world’s biggest and highest level of craft biennale, the event attracts more than 3,000 artists from 60 countries and 400,000 visitors.

One of the significant features of Cheongju Craft Biennale, 2019 Cheongju International Craft Competition, plans to receive online submmissions for [Craft Competition] and [Craft City Lab Competition] from May 1 through 31 this year.

The Competition offers a total of KRW 140,000,000 in prize money to the winners in two competition areas : The [Craft Competition] calling for craft works, and the [City Lab Competition], which is a curatorial competition, seeks ideas to secure the diverse directions and perspectives for Cheongju to grow as the craft city.

The [Craft City Lab Competition] calls for ideas or project suggestions that could develop into a paper focusing on the potential of Cheongju to grow as the Craft City. The final winners will be announced in June, and the works are to be documented and published prior to the opening of 2019 Cheongju Craft Biennal.
