Artist Statement

An artist has to be an inventor as well as a performer, creating original ideas, then interpreting these ideas onto canvas or an alternative selected medium.I am diverse in my attitude towards art, so for me to remain in one style is virtually impossible, each style needs a different approach and a different discipline.I am constantly challenging myself, it is at the core of my very being, to break through the walls that surround us, to discover, to search beyond, to break through into an unfamiliar direction. Our very existence is one that requires constant analysis which coincides with my constant challenge to ignite an undiscovered identity within, seeking an unchallenged pathway. It is through personal confrontation with oneself to discover and break through new boundaries and change the traditional concepts of art. The Evolution of Fine Arts affects all of us and it is the artist that is constantly striving to bring an awareness and recognition to the extraordinary World of Art. It is an emotional and spiritual and sometimes an overwhelming endeavor.”

WHAT FIRST PROMPTED YOU TO THINK OF BECOMING AN ARTIST?

My Mother was an artist, so I did grow up in a household where art was practised. It really seemed like second nature to me, to pick up a brush and begin to paint. My Father was from the Basque Country and every summer we were there for a couple of months and as a child I would sit alongside of my Mother and paint with her. She was very talented and encouraged me to go to the Liverpool Art College. My Father was more practical and suggested that I get a degree in something that I could use and work at. Generally people think you can not make a living as an artist, but I took my degree in Industrial Design, specializing in silver and goldsmithing, but I never started that profession, instead I became a full time artist as soon as I got out of art school.

WHAT KIND OF ARTIST DO YOU ULTIMATELY SEE YOURSELF?

Revolutionary – always searching for new concepts, constantly changing – travel is an integral part of my development always giving me a new perspective and a new insight.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO COMMUNICATE TO THE VIEWER THROUGH YOUR WORK?

I want to communicate the energy that I put into my paintings. I would like the viewer to grasp the intensity and pleasure through the energy and the colour-- to see and feel the power and the passion that is emitted from my work.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE PROCESS OF CREATING YOUR WORK?

It is a spontaneous physical and mental combination of colour and texture.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS?

Right at the beginning when I have no idea which direction it is going to go. In the first strokes on the canvas with palette creating spontaneous combustion which leads to the first form and composition.

CAN YOU GIVE US AN INSIGHT INTO CURRENT PROJECTS AND INSPIRATION, OR WHAT WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO FROM YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

I would like to Interpret the Bible through my philosophy of extraterrestrials and the presumed miracles of the Bible.
