Artist Statement

I chose a favorite piece from each of my current collections. They represent a journey of survival, loss, self-expression, discovery, and reflection. Each piece represents a diverse method of technique. I am constantly working outside of my comfort zone.

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

I was battling depression and wanted to emphasize everything beautiful that I saw in the world. Like a dream,  I wanted to bring out the most vibrant exciting colors, to turn up the intensity in the bland world of COVID-19. Each day is an expression of how I felt. The more intricate, the more vibrant; expressed my efforts in letting go of the frustration of this time in our lives.

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

I believe in my heart I am an abstract artist. I am happiest working on original work.

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

Empathy, compassion, strength, and love.

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

I do mixed media focusing mainly on watercolors and enamel. I found a unique technique that’s been working really well. I like to think I do everything wrong, I create art outside of the box of traditional techniques.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?

My favorite part of the creative process he’s watching a vision or dream come to life on a canvas and giving it that extra intensity.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

Currently, I am working on aspects of nature, “supercharged“. I want them to be an explosion of color and beauty in the world around us. I want to stop taking those things for granted.
