Biography

Romana began to devote herself fully to painting relatively late in her life, because she worked for three decades in the demanding position of manager of an international photo agency. Her work has been greatly influenced by studying of eastern styles of painting such as calligraphy, sumi-e and the New York School, especially the action and gestural painting. Since 2022, she has devoted herself entirely to creative work.
Romana translates feelings, experiences, and thoughts into new image renderings. It is action, movement and spontaneity that define her artistic expression and visual language.

Artist Statement

Energy is important to me. Therefore, my inspiration can be anything that catches my attention. It can be a special light in a landscape as well as a dialog or music. These perceptions can be both positive and negative. I feel the energy of that moment and analyze it, and then I capture this experience on canvas or paper.
