George Rowbottom
Biography
I was born and educated in the UK graduating with a 1st. Class Honours BA in Fine Art (Painting).
Amongst an array of artistic endeavours I’ve been a creative director in advertising, a copywriter, an animator, a comedy writer and performer, an art director and a graphic designer.
One of my first commissions was to paint murals on the walls of Elton John’s Rocket Records.
In London I worked from my own studios in Soho, Carnaby Street and Convent Garden. My clients included Elton John, Queen, George Harrison’s HandMade Films and the Monty Pythons.
As a Creative Director I worked in the music industry, film and television, advertising and publishing. I migrated to Queensland, Australia, in 2002.
My career has come full circle and now I paint pictures.
I have exhibited in London, Melbourne, Zurich, Los Angeles, Sydney, Miami, New York, the Hamptonsand have works in publication in the USA, the UK, Germany, France and the UAE.
Artist Statement
I simply paint pictures and am predominately a figurative painter.
Although I plan my work in detail my choice of subject matter is unconventional, unorthodox and, by design, diverse.
I paint whatever interests me and, as a result, explore new avenues that will challenge my ability.
I paint my own version of realism in which the promiscuous collision of images that define the finished work will, hopefully, be engaging, idiosyncratic, quirky and make you smile.
