Rebecca Sanders

Rebecca Sanders

Biography

Rebecca is a German self-taught photo-artist, abstract painter and writer. Her professional path as a visual artist started in 2019. After living and working in Berlin for a while, she currently resides in Stuttgart, Germany. Her photo art is driven by her interest in the human psyche and the bigger picture of life. The liberation from general norms, conventions and paradigms is the driving force behind her work. Rebecca is an unconventional thinker with an out of the ordinary perspective on life. She invites us to question not only our so far understanding of the world we live in but also about ourselves – with the goal of achieving radical authenticity and eliminating any internal and external boundaries. Her often sensual and erotic artworks are an invitation for creating more space in our lives for our true desires and needs. Furthermore, they represent our ability to surrender to life itself – due to our inability to control it completely.

Artist Statement

"From the beginning, I felt attracted to manipulating photographic material, which resulted in increasingly unconventional image compositions over the years. I use digital overlays/arrangements of figurative and abstract images, experimenting with new styles for each new series. Each of them represents progress in a human being’s personal and spiritual development - reflecting the process of the liberation of our true identity and our full potential on all levels. My art tells the story of the search for ourselves and the striving for a life filled with purpose and meaning.

I frequently work with erotic/nude images, symbolizing the genuine and utmost authentic version of ourselves: that pure, passionate and inspired being, which gets trapped far too frequently in norms, conventions, and fears. It is my goal to remind people about that part of themselves and for triggering their emotional, mental, and/or spiritual liberation.

In my abstract expressionism painting practice, preferably in large formats, I find a soothing opposite pole to my digitally-based work in the field of photo art. The physical work with "real materials" not only calms my mostly overactive brain activities, but it also forces me to become very grounded and present with myself. By this, I get in deep contact with my emotions and my subconscious, leading to exciting new ways to communicate with the observer."
