Michai Morin

Michai's work could be described as visually euphoric.  A sort of optical "high."  He refers to his art as both tone-setting and atmospheric.  Neither description truly does justice to the out of body feeling you get when you stare into one of his works.  Seeing his work on the large glass panels he uses as his medium is an adventure into the realm of deep science and the divine.  It's technical glossy precision paired with emotionally warping shapes and colors.  His work is fractal only in that he uses layer upon layer of dualism like paint to construct his images.

Not unlike an ancient fortune teller's crystal ball, Michai uses spheres as objects to anchor his gossamer worlds into our reality.  The sensation of gazing at his scenes can be best described as enchanting. His work appears window-like, in that it resembles a portal to another space comprised of simple form and gradient.  One can tell that there are definitely messages woven into his craft, which are hinted at in his titles.

"My work is an attempt to document our current era of technology and science.  Each piece I create I do so with the intent of abstractly portraying a sophisticated concept of our place in the Universe. Optical psychology and aesthetics are the framework of my art.  Message, gradient, and contrast are my paints." -Michai Mathieu Morin, (2019).

Michai is one of those rare artists who not only constructs the complex tools of his trade but also injects deep existential exploration into all of his abstractions.  Very few are at his level, even less have done what he has accomplished for the credibility of digital art as an accepted fine art medium.  It is not hard to see why he was chosen as "New Media Artist of the Year" last year (2019) by Art Design Consultants.

He has a neat website for his studio with a VR showroom he created to aid in the conceptualization of his finished works.  He offers commission works to a select few throughout the year.  Trust me, showing off one of his limited edition works will be an immediate topic of interest in any setting.  Michai also consults for a number of undisclosed organizations and tech companies about the corporate benefit of nurturing creativity. He literally embodies this notion of "Science and Art" as being one in the same. I look forward to watching his career climb as he continues to bring us many more windows into the hidden dimensions that exist all around us.
