Interview with Belle Roth

Interview with Belle Roth

Belle Roth gained an appreciation for the arts while growing up in Southeast Asia. After experiencing art, music, and travel at a young age, she unveils her life experiences through her interpretation of colors, textures, and details.

Belle’s work glistens with hopeful societal transformation. Her earth-toned color palette is reminiscent of sources from which building materials are mined and on which home and hearth stand.

Layers of texturized acrylic, spray paint, and gold leaf are vigorously applied using different techniques, promoting participation in joyous unexplored opportunities. Belle measures powerful narratives of family, community, equality, overcoming adversity, and collective capabilities with hopes of sharing her perspective in the pursuit of a better world.

Could you please introduce yourself and tell us how you started in the arts? and your first experience in art-making?

Art has always been a part of my life. I gained an appreciation for the arts while growing up in Southeast Asia. After experiencing art, music, and travel at a young age, I unveil my life experiences through my visual interpretation of colors and textures on canvas.

How would you describe yourself and your artwork?

My art reflects my life in general. It is pulling from a lot of positive thoughts, working from instinct, revisiting on precious experiences and the thought of “what ifs” as a foundation.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

At a young age, I witnessed discrimination based on how people were treated based on their social economic standing. This served as my personal goal related to advocating for equality and respect.  I value sharing positivity towards others.  I have travelled extensively, and I saw similarities in various places. My art captures what I felt at that place and moment in time.

What emotions do you hope the viewers experience when looking at your art?

In my art you will see bold separation of colors that depicts the power of hope and dreaming big. It is a simple reminder that after chaos, there is always calmness; after sadness, there is always joy; after hatred, there will always be love. The use of multiple layers and colors encourages one to look beyond their current situation and discover new and exciting opportunities. My art intends to encourage the audience to see the world in a different perspective, one that is full of vibrance and positivity.

When do you know that an artwork is finished?

My creative process is centered on layering and repetitive strokes and it can go on forever depending on my emotions at that instance. My heart will say it will never be finished. The solution is for me to walk away and see how I feel the following day.  When my emotions and passion are balanced - -then my art is done.

What has been the most exciting moment in your art career so far?

I am included as one of 100 international artists chosen for the 2020 MvVO Art Ad Show at Oculus, World Trade Center in New York.  This is a great honor as I am surrounded by artists that are also within the business development and marketing industry.

How long does it take to produce one work?

Between 4 – 10 weeks.

What exciting projects are you working on right now? Can you share some of the future plans for your artwork?

I am challenging myself to work on canvas’ that are larger than 72x48.

Do you have any upcoming events or exhibitions we should know about?

I am very excited that through my partnership with Agora Gallery, my art will be presented in major events in New York from September to December 2020. Beginning at a Collective Exhibit in Chelsea New York, MvVO Ad Art Show at Oculus Word Trade Center, ArtExpo New York, Red Dot Miami and Galleria 360 in Florence, Italy.

Because of the pandemic, other galleries had to be rescheduled for 2021 (i.e. Colorida Gallery in Lisbon Portugal etc.).

Where do you see your art going in five years?

I see my art as a continual progression. I hope to be an integral part of the global contemporary art platform.
