Biography

In February 2021, marked the 55th anniversary of Mrs. Parichehr Namdar's unique 3-4 Dimensions technique in the art of painting called "Cherism". Many artists inspired by this technique; architects, designers, movie producers, and other related professionals directly and indirectly around the world.
Namdar's Technique is an oil color blending method, in which her magic is to compile combinations of oil colors in a different side of her creation, to introduce "Passing Time, Movement, Reflection, Changes, Shades, and more". When you look at the picture of each painting, it's not 3 paintings, it is photos of three different angles of one painting. The most suitable way to see her paintings and her unique technique is from close range, walking from one side of the frame to the other side, and while you walk the half-circle front of the paintings, you can see the changes. One can see my paintings in pictures and videos on my website, but it's not the same as seeing the art live and up close. I wish one day I could have more exhibitions all around the world again. Her artworks were confined in Iran until 2002 then it was permitted to ship paintings to the USA.

Artist Statement

I would like to have the opportunity to introduce this new and unique technique which I invented the 3D-4D technique in the world of art in 1966. •1954 Tehran, Iran -Graduated Tehran University, Fine Art

What first prompted you to think of becoming an artist?

In 1934, when I was almost 4 years old, fascinated by things that change in nature quickly; in a day, I happened to see sunny, cloudy, rainy/snowy weather transitions combined with shade, a beam of light, and wind... OMG! I was transfixed by watching flower fixtures; colors, texture, shape, sway, looks, background ... Subsequently, as a teenager, studying art, noticed that none of the existing paintings offering dimensions, reflections, or passing time. While studying in the Art faculty of Tehran university, I was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's works and his determination to find visual movement but committed suicide at age 37. Interesting and odd enough that I discovered this new technique when turned 37!

What kind of an artist do you ultimately see yourself?

Definitely, my invention revolutionized Naturalism. I love how nature looks, and how beautiful it is, that I wanted to transpire its transitions/passage of times. Gratified for my accomplishments in art and to be the first woman who invented a new and unique technique in painting. Found the technique showing how nature changes, reflections and passing the time in one painting; sunrise, sunset, and lunar/solar eclipse on a canvas, a canvas displays both rainy day and scene behind the opaque windows, another showing the waves of body heats or body rays...

What are you hoping to communicate to the viewer through your work?

Showing nature in action! I added dynamics and movement to my canvas. It's not even 3D, but also 4D technique since the passing time can be felt through the paintings, as well.

Can you explain the process of creating your work?

All my paintings with my technique show the dynamic of nature. I would spend hours, days, months looking at nature and taking in all its beauty and then put it on a sketch thinking how I can incorporate the time into its beauty. After that, I'd visualize how I can set it up on the canvas to show the genuine and lively nature. Adding textures to the surface of the canvas and put the colors brush after brush, makes the picture 3D, and shows the scene dynamic which means 4D, passing the time. Obviously, most of the painting concepts are missed if standing still! A side-to-side move is needed to receive the painting message and sense all four dimensions. Usually, 3 pictures from different angles must be taken to communicate with the painting's essence well. Also, I love explaining my work to exhibition visitors and seeing their expressions when moving along, almost 180-degree transition, the canvas. I never got tired of doing this whole day!

As of 1945, I applied my new technique to all my artifacts that presented some sort of nature. Then I introduced my invention to the world of Art and fulfilled a lifetime achievement as the first woman who invented a new technique in painting art in 1966. My technique was recognized and received the highest honorable awards in art by the three most famous European academies in 1984.

What is your favourite part of the creative process?

Finding appropriate subjects that could be best expressed and conformed by this technique was one of my best hobbies and so entertaining. Each oil painting with my unique technique took me on average more than seven months to complete. I enjoyed walking across the framed canvas, looking carefully, and gradually shaping up my ideal complex pictures.

Can you give us an insight into current projects and inspiration, or what we can look forward to from you in the near future?

I am so proud that my work soon has been using and adopting by some artists by adding dimensions to their work. My artifact is historically priceless as this technique was originated by a Zoroastrian woman from The Middle East first. I'm in my 90's now and I wish I could paint more, but at the moment I'm taking time for myself and my family. Who knows, maybe I will have another project hopefully in another 10 years, but right now I'm happy with what I've done and with what I have. Unfortunately, I have not advertised my work professionally and made the uniqueness of my artifact recognized by the world gracefully which one of the reasons was financial, however, I am pretty sure that like many inventors my arts will be more appreciated and recognized after me.

Finally, I like to mention that with help of my oldest daughter, from 20 years ago we collected all my notes and poems and the results are; three poetry books published in 2017, two books about all my paintings, and my technique call Cherism published in 2019, and the last book is my life story which hopefully would be published soon.
